Good Design is Always Good Business
Recently Saxen focused on sustainability for an article published in the Business Herald.
De-forestation is a constant worry for the planet. Everyone has heard about the de-forestation for palm oil in Borneo and negative impact on the orangutan population. These forests are essential for the survival of the species.
Forests play a major role in human survival too. They absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and filter out pollution from the water. Millions of people directly depend on forests to meet social and economic needs.
The article for the Herald focused on choosing furniture made from woods with eco friendly credentials. Wood is a renewable source if combined with good forestry and timbering practices.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification scheme (PEFC) provide assurance of good practice. These schemes check monitors are in place to track timber and fibre from the forest source to the end user ensuring forests are managed to meet social, economical and ecological needs of present and future generations.
Look for manufacturers with recognised sustainability schemes when choosing your furniture. Your supplier should be able to provide you with this information for each product range. Good design is always good business.
