Saxen Ltd was founded in 2007 with two employees – one who had years experience in the office furniture sector and one who knew nothing about office furniture, but was great at admin, organisation and had an amazing eye for design!
The combination of the two saw the creation of Saxen’s first e-commerce website and it quickly took off, growing substantially within the first year. It grew to such an extent that new premises had to be found quite quickly to accomodate the increasing number of staff. But the new office didn’t contain the staff members for long. A couple of years later and after some extensive renovation works, Saxen moved into a three storey old lace mill. The new premises allowed Saxen to accomodate a state-of-the-art showroom and the building compliments the contemporary European designed furniture brilliantly!
Saxen are based in Newmilns, Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland, about 20 miles south of Glasgow. Quite an unexpected location for an office furniture business you might think, but the founders of Saxen both hail from the small town, once booming from the lace industry in the early 1900’s, but now with high unemployment and most of the lace mills gone to make way for housing.
The main objective of the company is to offer a range of furniture different to that you would normally find in offices – we want to open customers’ minds to the options available. Think of your office as a home from home – you may spend as much time in the office as you do in your house, but until recently, less importance was placed on how your office looks.
We want to offer a better quality of product – desks made from FSC Timber, products which have British Standard certification and also using manufacturers who hold the ISO 9001/14001 quality/environmental standards or equivalent European certifications. This is reflected in our choice of product and manufacturers.
